2009 Board Election Announcement # 4 (UPDATE)

The nominating process for the annual Board election has been completed. Ballots will be mailed to the POA membership in December with the results announced at the Annual Meeting on 24 January 2009.

Annual Meeting of the RMRPOA Date Set (NEW)

The Annual Meeting of the RMRPOA has been set for Saturday, 24 January 2009, from 10 AM to 12 Noon in the Blanco Room, Wimberley Community Center, located at 14068 Ranch Road 12 (next door to Brookshire Bros. Grocery Store).

A formal invitation will be mailed as a reminder to the membership in late December. Remember that the results of the Board election will be announced during the meeting as well as a discussion of plans and priorities for 2009. This year a doorprize will be awarded to one of the POA members in attendance. All RMRPOA members are invited and encouraged to attend.

RMRPOA Board Formally Establishes Firewise Committee (NEW)

The Board voted unamimously to adopt a resolution formally establishing a Firewise Committee at the regularly scheduled meeting on 11 November. The mission of the newly formed committee will be to obtain and maintain national recognition of RMR as a Firewise Community in order to protect RMR people, property, and natural resources, from the risk of wildland fires before they start. Additionally, the committee will seek to instill community responsibility for planning, building and maintaining a safe community and an effective emergency response plan to a wildland fire.

The following persons have been appointed to serve on the committee in the function as indicated:

Chairperson & Liaison to RMRPOA Board
Data Manager
Cathy Kubica
Education & Information
Nancy & Fred Carney
Fire Danger Notice & Evacuation Routes
Patti Lewis
Neighborhood Network
Mardee Caulkins
RMRPOA Board Member Advisor
Margaret Baker
Texas Forest Service Representative
Jan Fulkerson

It should be noted that one of additional benefits of becoming a Firewise Community is that RMR will become eligible to apply for grant money from the state/federal government to help pay for wildland fire mitigation activities (e.g., grass mowing along roads, support for upgrade of existing privately owned water tanks for Fire Department use, emergency fire exit, etc). Any grant money obtained will be mean a potential cost savings and/or reduction to the POA and its membership for doing those tasks that would have had to be paid from POA funds.

Burn Ban Information

In addition to our new Burn Ban sign by the inner gate, POA members are reminded that they can continue to check the status of the Hays County Burn Ban and other related information with the Hays County Fire Marshal at the following link: http://www.co.hays.tx.us/Departments/FireMarshal/tabid/104/Default.aspx

Holiday Fire Safety (NEW)

The RMRPOA Board and the Firewise Committee encourage everyone to have a Happy Holiday Season and "Keep your Holiday Fire Safe". Additional information can be found at the link below to the National Fire Protection Association.
